On The Buses

It's been a while.

My seamstress adventures have been curtailed by moving houses and cities- and not least by currently being without a sewing machine. I feel a bit bereft.

Just as well I made myself this cheery skirt one weekend then....thanks to a half-metre of Cath Kidston cotton duck. I think it's furnishing fabric but it sews up lovely. It lends itself to a simple elastic-waisted skirt as it hangs nicely....and it makes me feel happy, which is the main thing.

Spring skirts | Waste Not, Want Not 02

This week I have decided to be sensible and use up some large remnant pieces of fabric. I managed to get two basic shorter pencil skirts out of my leftover Zinnia blue gabardine and some remnant end-of-roll Paul Smith fine cord. I have so many things I want to make but sometimes it's equally satisfying to get something wearable out of odds & ends...and maybe by making something in corduroy, it will prolong this lovely weather we're having?! *fingers crossed*

Another Zinnia, this time in navy gabardine. I love this skirt; it’s perfect with some Breton stripes & a spray of favourite perfume :) I want to make a shorter one next and try the other pattern versions.

My first try with my other new pattern, my Zinnia skirt {vs.2}. 

I used some leftover red polka-dot cotton, so I could ‘run through’ the pattern and fit it properly, but I actually think I could happily wear this out & about. It was also my first attempt at in-seam pockets and machine-sewn buttonholes {hence the proud close-up pictures!}. I can’t wait to make one of these skirts in a plain navy for work and maybe in some fun printed cotton for spring :)
